With the Intracoastal Waterway as a backdrop, artists Dwight Kirkland and Michael Colley introduced a mural of Alabama’s marine mammal and newest landmark at Tacky Jack’s Gulf Shores on March 9. The Pennsylvanians had just spent two weeks creating an extraordinary 38-foot tall mural at the restaurant, located under the south end of the Hwy. 59 Bridge. The multiple manatee mural, well lit and spectacular, was put on debut during a reception for the artists and The Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s Manatee Sighting Network (MSN). “This is our biggest manatee awareness effort yet,’’ said Dr. Ruth Carmichael, director of the MSN.
